Mortgage and Redundancy Cover:

A mortgage is one of the biggest commitments in our lifetime. If you fall ill or suffer a longer term injury or are made redundant, meeting your mortgage repayments can be hugely stressful. Mortgage and redundancy cover pays you a monthly benefit to meet this commitment.
  • Up to 110% of your monthly mortgage repayment is covered.
  • Partial disability benefits can be paid.
  • Redundancy benefit will pay up to six monthly payments after a thirty day wait period.
Life Insurance:

If the insured person suffers a terminal illness or passes away life cover pays a lump sum of money to help your family make payments that you would have contributed to. There is also the option of an accidental death benefit which is a lower cost option will pay the lump sum if you pass away as a result of an accident.

On average there is one death in New Zealand every 16 minutes (Statistics New Zealand, Population Clock, June 2012, www.stats.govt.nz).

Common reasons for life insurance claims are:
  • Cancer (49%)
  • Heart disease (21%)
  • Other illnesses (10%)

The benefit payment can be used to cover:
  • Help pay off the mortgage, which will become a burden on the remaining spouse.
  • Financial support for family such as contributing to spouse’s retirement fund or paying education fees for your children.
  • Paying child care support.
  • Meet final expenses (funeral, legal, medical).

     Different Payment Options:
  • Level premium payments: You can choose a level premium payment option and lock your premium payments in, so they don’t increase with age like a fixed rate mortgage.
  • Stepped premium payments: Stepped premiums start lower than Level premiums but increase each year based on your age at that time.
Medical Cover:

Medical cover will cover medical expenses when health problems are not covered by the public health system. It means you can go privately and get treatment faster than you would through the public systems placement on waiting lists.

With the public health system, You could be faced with wait times of up to six months for assessment and treatment (Ministry of Health, 2013, http://www.health.govt.nz/publication/quality-dimensions-elective-waiting-time-goals-high-level-review).

Medical covers will fast-track your treatment and recovery. It usually allows you the choice of specialist, surgeon and hospital you want to go with, and what date you choose to go with the treatment or procedure.
